— RINCON, PUERTO RICO
Designed with the island in mind.
Rincón has a climate that is breathtaking and demanding in equal measure. The humidity, salty air, intense sun, and tropical storms are all forces that have a way of exposing every shortcut or every imported material chosen for how it looks rather than how it performs.
This project starts from a different premise... What materials and design choices actually thrive here?

— DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
A home designed to
belong to the island, not fight it.
01
Climate-first material selectioN
Every material was evaluated for its resistance to humidity, salt air, heat, and UV exposure before aesthetics were considered. In a climate that exposes every shortcut, the material specification is where good design either holds or fails.
02
Built-in over bought
Freestanding furniture can swell, corrode, and need replacing in a tropical environment. What is integrated into the structure behaves as part of the building. Concrete built-in elements are thermally stable, moisture resistant, and unaffected by the conditions that compromise freestanding pieces over time.
03
Storage as architecture
Built-in seating, dining benches, and kitchen cabinetry integrate storage directly into the architectural elements so the space is always organized without effort.
04
Permanence as a design choice
Built-in concrete does not scratch, warp, or need replacing. It does not age out of style or show wear the way furniture does. In a home built for the long term, these pieces will outlast everything around them.
